We played a game in sunday school today where one girl would be blindfolded and the other would have to give them directions to get them through the maze.
Picture this: You're in the middle of a huge maze. I mean HUGE. Miles and miles across. You're completely alone. There's a catch:You can't see. At all. You've become blind. After hours of wandering aimlessly, you finally give up and sink to the ground. You start to cry. Then you start to pray, pleading for some guidance. You hear something. What is that? It's in your head. Is that.... directions? Sure enough! There's a voice, pure and true, giving you directions! You don't know where they lead you to, good or bad, but it's worth a shot! And better than just sitting there. You scramble to your feet. Did it say left or right first? It repeats the directions. 3 steps forward, sharp left, 7 steps forwards, take a right, etc. You start following the directions. After a few hours you get tired, sometimes you want to just go the way YOU choose. You stub your toe, run into a wall, or fall down, but the voice is always there whether you choose to listen to it or not. After what seems like a lifetime, you make it to the end of the maze. You sigh with relief. You did it! Or did you? Could you have done it on your own? There's no WAY you would have made it out of that maze all by yourself! Suddenly you can see again. You're not blind anymore! Hallelujiah! You're blinded by the glory of the one in front of you. Who is that? Why are they glowing so brightly?
He smiles at you and introduces himself as the voice inside your head. Jesus.
The maze is life. Life has endless twists and turns, we can't see far enough ahead to have any idea what's coming at us! If we don't follow God's plans and guidance: sure maybe we'll totter around a bit and maybe end up on the right path, but eventually you're going to stub your toe or run into a wall. Not so good, huh?
Mark 8:34-35 -- Then he (Jesus) called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.
