Eyes Wide Open

Today I'm hyper aware of the things that break God's heart.
If you haven't read "the hole in our gospel", you should.
It's life changing.

It's so easy for me to hear about drought, starvation, and other terrible things and not let it faze me.
Sure, I might feel sad for a few minutes, maybe I'll even donate a few dollars to the cause, but then I easily fall back into my easy and comfortable life.
What if it was my best friend who was starving, dying of thirst, or being sold into sex slavery? What if it was my neighbor? What if it was someone from my church, school, or town?
Wouldn't I be outraged? Wouldn't it haunt my every waking thought? Wouldn't I do anything in my power to help them?
What does it matter that the children that are dying from lack of water and food live across the ocean. Out of sight out of mind - is that truly how I view it? That just because I can't see them suffering, somehow means it isn't happening?
Next time you hear a gripping story about the true living conditions abroad, instead of just shrugging it off - put yourself in their place. Think about it as if it's someone you know. See how much differently you view the situation when it becomes personal.
The fact is that for many people it is personal. It's their child that's thirsty. It's their little brother who's hungry. It's their best friend who was sold into sex slavery.
If you close your eyes, it doesn't mean it isn't happening.
If you turn a blind eye, it doesn't stop it.

Let your prayer be this: that you would see the world through God's eyes. Let your heart break for the things that break His heart.

Lives could be changed.
